We are nearing the end of summer, but some of us still have plans to travel over Labor Day weekend. If you're planning to camp or go boating at a state park in Texas, you need to know that four will remain closed through Labor Day 2015.

Memorial Day weekend flooding affected over 50 state parks throughout Texas, causing damage and/or closing of the parks.

According the the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, hundreds of volunteers have helped to clean up many parks since this spring's torrential rainfalls across the state. However, the below four state parks remain closed and will stay that way through Labor Day weekend.

  1. Cedar Hill State Park - 1570 FM1382, Cedar Hill, Texas
  2. Lake Somerville State Park - 14222 Park Street, Somerville, Texas
  3. Lake Whitney State Park - 433 FM1244 Whitney, Texas
  4. Ray Roberts Lake State Park - 100 P W 4137, Pilot Point, Texas

According to Brent Leisure, director of the State Parks Division of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Division, the greatest priority is "ensuring that the parks are safe for public use before re-opening."

Currently, state park recovery projects for the state of Texas are estimated to be about $16 million dollars.
