Ahmed Mohamed, the Dallas-area teen arrested in September for making a homemade clock which teachers believed to be a bomb, is moving to Qatar in the Middle East.

A statement was released yesterday by Ahmed Mohamed's family saying that they accepted a foundation's offer to pay for Ahmed's high school and college education in Daha, Qatar, in the Middle East.

Father Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed told the Dallas Morning News: "We are going to move to a place where my kids can study and learn, and all of them be accepted by that country."

The statement also said that the "family had been overwhelmed by the many offers of support" since the Sept. 14 incident involving Ahmed's arrest at his school in Irving, Texas.

The teenager took a homemade clock to school to show one of his teachers. Another teacher believed it to be a bomb, which led to a three-day suspension.

The incident sparked controversy across the country, but especially in the political arena. Mohamed and his family were invited via Twitter by President Obama to visit The White House.

In addition to the White House visit, the teen has also visited Facebook and Google HQs, the National Geographic Society and several other industries and companies in the U.S. and overseas. This tour also included a visit to the president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, which caused controversy.

President al-Bashir is wanted by International Criminal Court on charges of genocide and war crimes linked to the fighting in Dafur. Ahmed's father is a Sudanese immigrant who previously ran as a presidential candidate against al-Bashir.
