The forecasts of a driving blizzard proved to be accurate this morning. The snow accumulations at KFYO are approximately an inch as of 5:40 this morning.

Lubbock International Airport was shutdown before 6 a.m. due to the snow and forecasted snow.

Blowing and drifting snow, along with wind gusts of up to 60 mph, has reduced visibility to near zero on area roadways, and snow drifts are forming over the driving and passing lanes.

DPS and TxDOT have closed Interstate 40 from Amarillo, west to the New Mexico state line, and US 87/287 north out of Amarillo to the Oklahoma state line. Driving is also heavily discouraged along the I-27 corridor from Lubbock to Amarillo.

TxDOT crews are out plowing mainline roadways such as interstates and state highways. For roadway conditions, go to www.drivetexas.org.

TxDOT, City of Lubbock government offices and Lubbock County offices are closed except for emergency and essential personnel.

Texas Tech University, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Lubbock Christian University, South Plains College, and Wayland Baptist University are closed today.
