Brian Wilson Coming to Theaters Near You, Thanks to New Biopic
Even if he were simply one of the most critically revered songwriters of the rock era, Brian Wilson’s life story would be ripe for the film treatment. Toss in decades of eccentric behavior and lawsuits, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a biopic.
At least, that seems to be the thinking over at River Road Entertainment, the production company behind Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life,’ where Oren Moverman — the writer and director behind the Oscar-nominated ‘The Messenger’ — has been hired to write the screenplay.
The project is moving forward with the support of Wilson and his wife, Melinda, who sold Wilson’s life rights to River Road. The company has promised to “take an unconventional look at Wilson’s unique musical process as well as his struggles with mental illness, and how he managed to persevere as an artist with the love and support of his wife.”
Wilson, whose tenure with the Beach Boys produced a string of pop classics that includes ‘Good Vibrations,’ ‘In My Room,’ ‘Surfer Girl,’ and the ‘Pet Sounds’ album, is currently in the middle of a string of tour dates that will take him through Canada, across the U.S., and into Europe.
