Taurean Jackson, a 26-year-old Dallas man, has been sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison for sex trafficking a 16-year-old girl.

Jackson had a radio show called "Cheap Hoes Gotta Go" and has admitted that he conspired to bring a 16-year-old Dallas girl to Louisiana to work as a prostitute.

He has been ordered to pay $1,750 in restitution, plus he will registered as a sex offender and, when he is released, will be placed on supervised release for 10 years.

My question is simple: Is this enough?

Less than $2,000 dollars in restitution? Just 22 years in prison? Obviously he will be eligible for parole at some point. And even on supervised release he could do this kind of thing or engage in other predator-like activities. What's to stop him?

I know this may sound harsh, but I think castration should be mandatory for convicted sex offenders and predators.

One of the roots to the problem lies in this anatomical area and the other area, the mind, well, lobotomies are taking it to the extreme. But why not have mandatory sterilization or castration?  I think it would be an effective way to curb their insidious behavior and protect more and more of our children from being victims of these heinous crimes.

Some repeat sex offenders are opting for voluntary castration. Eight states, including Texas, allow chemical or surgical castration of convicted sex offenders if they choose to have the procedure performed. I think it should be mandatory.

I know some people will say we are violating the offender's rights, but how many children's rights are they violating? And they are taking something from our children that can never be replaced: their innocence.

Today is also National Hug Your Child Day, so take time to hold your child close and be thankful for you have them healthy, happy and with you. Protect your children, no matter what age. Know what they are doing, what they are watching, who they are talking to and who they are with.

It's up to us to make sure none of our children fall victim to these people with sick, twisted viewpoints and actions.
