From our news guys at KFYO:

"A popular recreation lake near Lubbock has a problem with too many fish—dead ones. Hundreds of dead and dying Shad have been washing up along the banks of Buffalo Springs Lake. It’s not a pleasant sight, and it’s a foul smelling one at that. But biologists have tested the lake water and tell KAMC-28 that the dead fish pose no health problems for humans. They say the lake is safe for people to swim and ski in. The Shad are a feeder fish and not game fish. Their dying seems to be a natural thing, caused by bacteria from  an algae that grows in lakes every spring."

You may not know this about me, but I come from a LONG line of proud Buffalo Springs Lake fishermen, so the story above doesn't seem like a problem to me.

As the King family would say: "FREE BAIT!"

This also reminds me of something else "fish related" that happened at Buffalo. Remember this fish with "human teeth":
