Edward James “Babe” Heffron From ‘Band of Brothers’, Dies at 90

Words can't describe how much the 'Band of Brothers' series on HBO changed me. It was one of the most heart-wrenching and best WWII dramas in history. What made it so special was that it was the true story of real men. Brave men. Much braver than I could ever hope to be. One of those men was Babe Heffron. Sadly, Babe died on Sunday at the age of 90.

Just like most of you, I've always had a soft spot for members of our military. Especially WWII vets. As a matter of fact, I'm named after my great-uncle who was one of the brave men who stormed the beach at Normandy. I've always been proud of that.

One more thing: I actually met another of the 'Band of Brothers', Wild Bill Guarnere, while I was in Memphis for a radio event years ago. I was stunned when I realized who he was. I walked up to him, shook his hand and thanked him for his service. I've never told anybody this before, but I actually teared up before I could get to the word 'service'. One of the coolest moments of my entire life and one that I'll NEVER forget.
