The Buddy Holly Center is excited to announce Buddy’s 77th Birthday Bash in honor of Lubbock’s most famous son, Buddy Holly. Patrons are invited to tour the Center on September 6th and 7th. There will be events and activities for the whole family!

Friday, September 6th at the Buddy Holly Center
Open 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Free Admission begins at 5:00 PM

  • WEST TEXAS GUITAR OPENING - The exhibition will feature the guitars of notable musicians and songwriters who originated from the West Texas region. 10:00 AM
  • J.I. ALLISON’S HOUSE RIBBON CUTTING - The home is where J.I. Allison lived as a teenager and where he and Buddy Holly wrote many hits including, That'll Be the Day. Special Guests: The Crickets (J.I. Allison, Sonny Curtis and Joe B. Mauldin) 5:30 PM.
  • BUDDY'S BIRTHDAY BASH RECEPTION - Birthday cupcakes & punch will be served. 6:00 PM.
  • DARREN WELCH GROUP - Performing Rock & Roll in the Meadows Courtyard. 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
  • FIRST FRIDAY ART TRAIL - The First Friday Art Trail is a night that provides an opportunity to enjoy fine art, entertainment and refreshments at local art galleries. 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • “SHOEBOX GUITARS” WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE EDUCATION SPACE UNTIL 9:00 PM

  • Guided Tours of J.I. Allison’s House will be at 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM.
  • THE CRICKETS LIVE 2012 - Showing in the Buddy Holly Center Theater all day. 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Poodle Skirts Workshop. Kids can take a step back into the 1950s and create their very own poodle skirts! Cost: $12  1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
  • Hot Rods Workshop. Kids can rev-up their creativity and turn an unfinished car into a cool hot rod! Cost: $7. 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • “SHOEBOX GUITARS” WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE EDUCATION SPACE UNTIL 5:00 PM

Pre-registration by Friday, August 30th at 5:00 PM is required for both workshops as class sizes are limited. For more information or to register please call 806.775.3562. Workshops are for ages 8 & up; ages 7 & under require adult supervision.
