Gene Stallings will serve as the keynote speaker for the evening. While Stallings’ career included much success in the football arena, he would say that his proudest accomplishment was fathering his son, Johnny, who lived with Down Syndrome.

Stallings once said, “If the good Lord could take me back [in time] and tell me that he would give me a healthy son or Johnny, I would take Johnny every time. My life wouldn’t be nearly as rich without him.”

Johnny passed away from a congenital heart defect in 2008. Stallings has since become a strong advocate for those with special needs. He has spoken across the country and co-authored “Another Season: A Coach's Story of Raising an Exceptional Son” that highlights both the challenges and joys of rearing his son.

“We hope others will be inspired through Gene coming to share his story. We hope to raise needed funds through this event to help those living with disabilities in the Lubbock area,” Doug Morris, Executive Director of High Point Village, said. The event will be held at 6:00pm at the Lubbock Civic Center and will include dinner by Carino’s Italian and a silent auction. Individual tickets to attend are $50 each and can be purchased online at www.highpointvillage.org or by calling 698-0015. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
