We hear about the splendor of fall around Michigan and on the Eastern seaboard, but the gorgeous fall colors this year in West Texas give those states a run for their money.

Some years in Lubbock it seems like we go straight from summer to winter with no fall whatsoever. This is especially true in those hard drought years. But this year is a brilliant exception.

Warm days and cool nights have ushered in the dramatic change of leaves -- from green to fantastic hues of golds, reds, burgundies and amber. No doubt the chilly night time temps will drop to the freezing point, which will, in turn, cause the leaves to drop, too.

So in the midst of our busy lives made even busier with the impending holiday season, take a minute to notice, enjoy and be thankful for the resplendent canvas that nature has provided this fall before it's all gone.
