A former Lady Raider has declared her candidacy to replace Randy Neugebauer as the 19th U.S. Congressional District representative.

DeRenda Warren of Symer said in a statement, "I am not a career politician. I am running because we simply must address the issues of healthcare, border security, and the broken programs affecting our veterans and our seniors."

Warren is seeking the republican nomination based upon 30 years of experience in the medical industry as a nurse and administrator and her LinkedIn says she is the current director of nurses at BrightStar Care of Lubbock, a home health care and medical staffing company focusing on infantile and elderly home care.

Before entering the medical world, Warren played for the Lady Raiders during the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons. The 81-82 season was Marsha Sharp’s first year as assistant coach for the Lady Raiders before assuming the position of head coach the following season.

Warren’s official campaign announcement takes place Monday, November 9, at the Lubbock County Courthouse beginning at noon.
