Former Lubbock Newsman Could Replace Katie Couric

According to Wikipedia.com Pelley was born in San Antonio, Texas, grew up in Lubbock, where he graduated from Coronado High School and obtained his first job in journalism at the age of fifteen as a copyboy for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

Staying close to home, he attended the journalism school at Texas Tech University, in Lubbock. He is married and has two children.

Pelley interviewing then President George W. Bush:

Pelley may wind up taking Katie Couric’s job too.

Apparently, Katie would be switching spots with “60 Minutes” reporter Scott Pelley. The “New York Post” says he’s likely leaving, because he’s agreed to take over for Katie on the “CBS Evening News”.

The “Post” claims CBS News has already decided NOT to renew Katie Couric’s “CBS Evening News” contract when it’s up in June, but they DO want her to stay with the network.

(We’d previously heard that CBS was initially OK with re-upping Katie, but that she’d need to accept a “significant” pay cut to make that happen.)

The “Post” says CBS is trying to entice her with a package that includes a spot on “60 Minutes” as a regular correspondent as well as her own daytime talk show.

None of this is official yet, though.

Katie’s spokesman said, quote, “Katie’s on vacation this week. Hopefully, the speculation about Katie can take a week off, too.”
