Hundreds of geocachers will descend on Lubbock next week during the Texas Geocaching Association’s (TXGA) 13th Annual Texas Challenge next weekend.

This is the first time the event will occur in Lubbock. Teams representing different areas of the state will compete head-to-head to see who can collect the most GPS tagged hide and seek containers, or geocaches.

The winning team will take home the Golden Ammo Can trophy.

TXGA encourages anyone with an interest in the activity to come out. The event is free and open to the public.

“The contest itself has grown into a weekend of activities for both people wishing to participate in the challenge and those people who wish to only casually attend,” said TXGA President Travis Gilbert

The four-hour event is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, at the South Plains Fair Grounds Coliseum.

Visit Lubbock estimates more than $76,000 in economic impact for the city from the event which is expected to draw hundreds of competitors from across the state and nation.
