Newly appointed Lubbock Police Chief Greg Stevens joined Lubbock's First News on Friday (August 28) along with Mayor Glen Robertson.

Thursday, Stevens was elected police chief by a unanimous vote of 7-0.

Stevens grew up around police officers as his dad was a police officer in Amarillo beginning in 1966.

"I grew up watching him do that work, so really that's what I wanted to do my whole life," said Stevens.

Stevens also has an extensive military background. When he returned from active duty in 2002, he made the decision to start working his way to become a police chief.

"All of these things along the way I've been doing not only to be credentialed to be a police chief, but also to be successful as a police chief," said Stevens.

When it comes to the misperception the public has with the LPD, Stevens says his goal is to begin working with the transparency within before they can reach out externally.

Stevens will be pinned as the Lubbock Police Chief by his dad Friday at 2 p.m.
