Lionsgate will follow in the footsteps of the successful ‘Harry Potter‘ and ‘Twilight‘ franchises by splitting ‘Mockingjay’ — the final story in the ‘Hunger Games‘ trilogy — into two parts.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate has also set the release dates for the films before the second film — ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘ — has even begun shooting. Part one of ‘Mockingjay’ will release on November 21, 2014, followed by part two on November 20th, 2015.

Historically, November has proven a solid month for action-fantasy geared at younger viewers, with the first ‘Twilight’ released on November 21, 2008, ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1′ released on November 18, 2011, and ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ set for release this November. And out of the ‘Harry Potter’ films, ‘Sorcerer’s Stone,’ ‘Chamber of Secrets,’ ‘Goblet of Fire,’ and ‘Deathly Hallows – Part 1′ were all released in November.

‘Catching Fire’ is currently scheduled for a November 22, 2013 release. When it comes to tween action and adventure, Lionsgate knows what will make you grateful at Thanksgiving time — kids killing other kids! Heck yeah!

‘Mockingjay’ is the third and final entry in ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy, based on the wildly successful novels of the same name by Suzanne Collins. In the final entry, heroine Katniss Everdeen has become the titular symbol for the rebellion in Panem.
