You read that headline right. Jah'shawn Johnson is the Defensive Player of the Week -- the first Red Raider to be named for the honor since 2012. Johnson had 16 tackles and a forced fumble last weekend in a 35-24 victory at Arkansas.

This is the third week in a row that Texas Tech has had a weekly Big 12 weekly award awarded to their program. The first two weeks, Pat Mahomes was named offensive player of the week. Jakeem Grant also notched special teams player of the week in week one.

Johnson had a career-high 16 tackles, the most that a Big 12 player has gotten this season. Johnson also forced and recovered a fumble to ice the game. It wasn't a forced fumble and recovery that you generally see, either. He literally just took the ball away from the Arkansas ball carrier. He leads the Big 12 with two fumble recoveries this season and is tied for the conference high with a pair of forced fumbles

Johnson and the Red Raiders will need to have an even better defensive performance on Saturday afternoon when Texas Tech hosts No. 3 TCU at Jones AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:45 p.m. CT.
