A survey of area and similarly sized districts revealed the school day in LISD was slightly shorter than many other districts. The addition of 25 minutes to the elementary school day provides more than two additional hours of available instructional time each week. The expanded time will make room for students to receive individual intervention and enrichment opportunities within the school day. Bus routes and communication will also be more efficient with consistent start and end times. Elementary campuses will also gain more flexibility in providing physical education and recess.

The tardy bell for elementary students will ring at 7:50 a.m. and school will dismiss at 3:20 p.m. Secondary schools will begin classes at 8:35 a.m. and dismiss at 4:05 p.m.
