You had to know this day was coming eventually: the 'Little House on the Prairie' movie is coming. And while that seems like a forgone conclusion, we don't think anyone expected it would come to us from the director of 'Pineapple Express' and 'Your Highness'...

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is in talks to adapt the 70s TV series and classic series of novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder into a movie directed by David Gordon Green. While Gordon Green has spent the past few years making comedies with varied success (his last film was the Jonah Hill flop 'The Sitter'), he did have a wildly successful early career with such films as 'George Washington' and 'All the Real Girls.'

Abi Morgan, who wrote both 'Shame' and 'The Iron Lady' for Meryl Streep, would write the adaptation. It's unclear whether she'll return to the book series or stick to adapting the old Michael Landon TV series. With producer Scott Rudin ('The Social Network') on board, dare we say that this 'Little House' movie has a pretty impressive pedigree?

Gordon Green had been attached to direct a remake of the classic horror film 'Suspiria' with Natalie Portman and the Nicolas Cage movie 'Joe' but it's unclear what this project means to the development of either of those films. Either way, it seems like we'll be getting less raunchy comedies from Gordon Green, which is a good thing.
