A 10-year-old boy worked over 1,500 hours at an academy in Lubbock for his junior black belt in Jiu Jitsu. His proud grandfather posted the photo on Facebook. Then, another instructor from Midland re-posted the photo and questioned its legitimacy. It only gets uglier from there.

After the photo was posted, some sent death threats to the family. Death threats? Are you kidding me? Over a junior black belt?

I understand people take martial arts very seriously, but death threats? Have we completely lost the ability to reason logically anymore?

Klay Pittman, the owner of Pittman's Academy of Martial Arts where the boy trained, admonished those threatening him and his family.

"It's absolutely disgusting," Klay Pittman said [quote via Everything Lubbock]. "Some of these comments are made towards this wonderful young man who's my student and to make those kind of comments it doesn't take any type of discipline, it doesn't require any kind of courage and the truth is, if you have to express violent intent, you're a small person."

Here's KLBK's report:
