A group spearheaded by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce on Monday announced its support of the statewide referendum Proposition 1 on the November ballot.

The Lubbock Association of Realtors, West Texas Home Builders Association, Lubbock Apartment Association and Texas Association of Realtors were the other groups joining with the chamber to voice their support for Proposition 1.

Texas voters will vote on the Proposition 1, which if approved, would create annual disbursements from Texas oil and natural gas production taxes into the State Highway Fund.  Initial estimates have up to $1.7 billion being transferred during the first year of the plan.

Speaking at today's announcement were West Texas Home Builders Association President Larry Driskill, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Alona Beesinger, Lubbock Apartment Association President Charles Young and Lubbock Association of Realtors President Nancy Rawls.

State Representative John Frullo (R- Lubbock) and State Senator-Elect Charles Perry (R- Lubbock) were also present at Monday's announcement and have voiced their support for Proposition 1.
