Lubbock Police have announced the arrest of a man involved in a 2008 cold case homicide of Monica Adams.

When the body of Monica Adams was discovered August 20, 2008, detectives with the Lubbock Police Department believed her to be a homicide victim. Despite the collection of DNA evidence and an extensive investigation, the case eventually went cold.

Then in October 2014, the Texas Department of Public Safety crime lab informed LPD that a familial DNA sample was a familial match to evidence collected at the Monica Adams crime scene. Meaning, a family member of the DNA provider would be the source of the DNA found at the Adams crime scene.

Armed with this new information, detectives re-examined the case and found new leads and identified one suspect Billy Jack Limbaugh, Jr.

Limbaugh, 43, was also quickly linked to two other cases.

Limbaugh was linked through DNA evidence matching the Adams homicide to January 2008 and May 2014 sexual assault cases. The victim in the May 2014 case was able to identify Limbaugh from a photo spread.

According to Lubbock Police, Limbaugh was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping and assault for the May 2014 case earlier this week. On October 9, 2008, Limbaugh was charged with the murder of Monica Adams and aggravated assault in the other 2008 case.

Limbaugh has not been linked to any other crimes at this time, but Lubbock Police continue to investigate. Limbaugh is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
