Three people lost their lives in fatal traffic accidents after a winter storm hit West Texas Sunday, Nov. 16.

KCBD reports that a total of 53 traffic accidents occurred in the Lubbock area after 6 a.m Sunday. Authorities confirmed that three people died as a result of those numerous accidents: two in Slaton, and one in a wreck near Hale Center.

The Texas Department of Transportation issued winter weather driving tips Sunday to help curtail further accidents.

The storm also affected local schools, with several delaying the start of Monday classes due to the ice-covered roads.
