Monday Night Football Recap — 49ers Clinch Playoff Spot With 34-24 Win
Colin Kaepernick threw for one score and ran for another and NaVorro Bowman returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown with 1:10 to play, as the 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons, 34-24, in the last regular season game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The Niners (11-4) clinched an NFC playoff spot as a result of the victory.
Trailing 10-3 at halftime, San Francisco dominated the second half and surged ahead by 10 points on two occasions. Atlanta (4-11) closed to within 27-24 when Matt Ryan threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Tony Gonzalez with 2:09 remaining.
After the Falcons recovered the ensuing onside kick, Ryan led his team to the San Francisco 10-yard-line, but Bowman snatched away a pass bobbled by Atlanta wide receiver Harry Douglas and took it the distance for the game-clinching score.
Kaepernick completed 13 of 21 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. Niners’ running back Frank Gore carried 21 times for 97 yards and a score.
Ryan finished with 348 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Falcons wide receiver Roddy White caught 12 passes for 141 yards and a score.
