Muleshoe School Board Holds ‘Special’ Graduation
Monday was a special day at the Muleshoe Independent School District. While the graduating class of 2011 still has work to do before it is ready to walk across the dais, it was graduation day none the less.
In special ceremonies, Jessica Howard of Lubbock, formerly of Muleshoe, received her high school diploma.
Howard would have graduated in 2009, and had passed all of the state TAKS requirements, but lacked a couple of the credits necessary before moving from Muleshoe.
As part of the former student tracking required by the Texas Education Agency, Ass’t. Superintendent Carl Krug located Howard in Lubbock, and when it was realized how close she was to graduating encouraged her to complete her credits.
Just recently, Howard completed the necessary course requirements for her high school diploma, and in honor of her accomplishment a special meeting of the MISD school board was called to officially present her with her diploma.
“This is the only school board I know of that would call a special meeting because they want to see one girl graduate and receive her diploma,” Muleshoe High School Principal Steve Myatt said at Monday’s presentation.
