Monday evening, an 18-wheeler carrying a pump jack crashed into the Ash Avenue Bridge overpass while traveling on the westbound main lanes of North Loop 289. The accident occurred just before 7pm. The Ash Avenue Bridge crosses North Loop 289 about a 1/2 mile east of I-27, in North Lubbock.

KAMC News reports that a chunk of concrete was dislodged from the overpass and it fell onto the main lanes of westbound North Loop 289.

TxDOT has closed the westbound main lanes of North Loop 289 at Ash Avenue and is diverting traffic to the frontage road.  The Ash Avenue Bridge itself is also closed and traffic is being detoured away from the area. Meanwhile, the eastbound main lanes of North Loop 289 at Ash Avenue remain open.

Contractors will inspect the bridge, and westbound main lanes of North Loop 289 at Ash Avenue, before determining what repairs need to be made.
