This week’s new releases include Hilary Swank fighting for justice for her brother, a vampire movie, and two beautiful British imports a little confused about their origin.

First up, we have Conviction. This based-on-a-true-story movie, stars Hilary Swank as Betty Ann Waters, a woman who sets out to free her wrongfully convicted (in their opinion) brother. Waters doesn’t even have a high school diploma, but works effortlessly to get her law school degree to defend Kenny, played by Sam Rockwell. I haven’t seen this movie, but the fact that it’s a true story is enticing enough. According to the Web site, Rottentomatoes.com, Rockwell and Swank give great performances, but the movie is less compelling than it should be.

Second is Let Me In, a film about a young teen (Owen) who is bullied and finds friendship with a young vampire (Abby) who lives in secrecy. Based on John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Vampire novel, this movie stars newcomer Chloe Grace Moretz and Kodi Smit-Mcphee. Roger Ebert gives the film a positive review and said, ‘those hoping to see a “vampire movie” will be pleasantly surprised by a good film.’

Last, the movie Never Let Me Go is a sci-fi thriller again based on a book. Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield star as three young adults who have grown up together in an English boarding school. The students soon discover that they are actually clones and have been created specifically to harvest organs. The movie made $2.4 million at the box office and sixty-nine percent of critics recommend the movie, according to Rottentomatoes.com.

Since these movies are all three so different, it is hard to choose one this week. The star-power and ‘out there’ plot for Never Let Me Go is enticing and would probably be my first choice to watch.
