This is so completely random that I love it. According to a study by the website SBNation.com, of all the thousands of athletes currently playing major U.S. sports, there's only ONE named Bob. That's it. Just one.

That's counting Major League Baseball, the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, and the NCAA for football and basketball. The only Bob is Bob Sanders.

And it's not even his given name. His birth name was Demond, and he asked his mother if he could change it to something easier for people to pronounce. So they picked Bob.

Over the history of those six sports, there have been 1,884 people named Bob.

The decline is even stranger because "Robert" and "Bob" haven't really lost popularity. Last year, Robert was still the 54th most popular baby name in the U.S.

For whatever reason, people named "Bob" just aren't going on to play sports at the highest level anymore.

The conclusion? If you like the name Bob, try naming your kid LeBob to salvage his shot at pro sports. YOU'RE WELCOME.
