A pedestrian lost their life Wednesday after being struck while trying to cross the Marsha Sharp Freeway at 19th St.

The victim, Sammy Rodriguez, 50, failed to yield the right of way while crossing the highway just before 3 p.m. and was struck by a 2006 Ford Focus, according to Lubbock police.

Traffic in the westbound lanes of Marsha Sharp was shut down for about two hours; eastbound traffic slowed to a crawl with just one lane open.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate.
