The Dallas Cowboys are prepared to roll with Brandon Weeden under center while Tony Romo recovers from the broken collarbone he suffered in last Sunday's win over the Eagles, but it never hurts to explore other options.

The Cowboys will work out free agent quarterbacks Christian Ponder, Josh Johnson and Matt Flynn today if not to start, just to have a back-up for Weeden in an emergency situation.

Christian Ponder has experience as a starter in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, but was uprooted and eventually ousted when the organization drafted Teddy Bridgewater in the first round of the 2014 draft.

Matt Flynn earned a big pay day from Seattle to be the Seahawks' starter once upon a time when he dazzled in a pinch with the Green Bay Packers. Flynn would later lose the job to third round pick Russell Wilson; the rest is history.

As it stands right now, Brandon Weeden is the only quarterback the Cowboys have on their 53-man roster while Romo is on the shelf.

Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore anchors the Cowboys practice squad, but seemingly has limitations that will keep him from being promoted to the 53.
