Five guitars belonging to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were stolen recently. The robbery took place on a soundstage in Culver City, where the band are rehearsing for their upcoming tour, Petty’s website reported Friday (April 13).

If you don't know what a 'guitar swing' is, it's when you throw your guitar around your back in the middle of a song using the strap, then you catch it when it comes back around and keep playing. And when it's done right, you look like a total stud.

But check out a video on YouTube called 'Guitar Swing Gone Wrong'. A guy tried to do it, but his strap came loose, and he accidentally launched his guitar in the air.

This clip, recorded from the inside of an acoustic guitar captures the instrument’s strings wildly oscillating in a way that’s different from what you would see if you were watching the videographer strum his six-string live — instead of a subtle vibrating, the strings move in exaggerated waves, like lines on a heart monitor.

The oscillation is not an enhancement added in post-production. It’s a result of the iPhone’s “Rolling Shutter” effect, which films by scanning the frame as opposed to taking a series of snapshots.
