Over a dozen rock and country artists assembled last night to pay tribute to Levon Helm, and hopefully save the barn that housed the formal and informal Midnight Ramble sessions for so many years. The 'Love for Levon' concert took place at the Izod Center in New Jersey on Wednesday.

One of the many highlights of last night’s three hour Bruce Springsteen show in Newark, N.J. was the singer’s impromptu tribute to the late Levon Helm. Springsteen and the E Street Band was joined by a full house at the Prudential Center in singing the the Band‘s ‘The Weight.’

One of the most important figures in the music scene of the late 60's and early to mid 70's, Levon Helm of The Band died yesterday at the age of 71. He succumbed to throat cancer. I mentioned on my show today that I once got a chance to meet Levon while waiting in line for coffee at Love Field in Dallas. It's still one of the coolest experiences I've ever had.
