There are over 50 species of blister beetles just in Texas, and some can be poisonous if eaten by livestock.

According to Poisoncontrol.org Blister Beetles can be from 3/8 to one inch long.  They could have lines or spots or even be solid in color like black or a metallic blue.

Blister beetles are not venomous, they do not inject venom through a bite or sting. They do, however, produce a fluid which blisters the skin, hence their name.

They feed on alfalfa, soybeans and other legumes. They are poisonous if eaten and have been known to cause death when ingested by horses.
