The camps are for children entering grades one through six. Cost for the camp is $5 and each participant will receive a camp t-shirt. Enrollment is full for the camps. Gillispie and the Texas Tech men’s basketball program will visit the Wilson, Optimist and Phea Boys & Girls Clubs.

These outreach camps are designed to provide an opportunity for local youth to receive basketball instruction from the Texas Tech coaching staff, current and former players.

“We will focus on the fundamentals of the game – passing, shooting, dribbling, defense, and playing together. But more importantly, we will help teach and be an example for being successful in everyday life,” said Gillispie. “Our goal is to do as much as we can to give back to the community.”

Gillispie said the Texas Tech men’s basketball program is looking for ways to reach out to the community in the month of August as well.

“As a group – our players, our coaches – we want to do what we can to support the youth of our community,” added Gillispie. “We want to be known as a program that excels on the court, in the classroom and in our community.”
