Austin, TX--- Wednesday, April 17, 2013--- Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas is pleased to announce plans to open its first Lubbock area location with franchise partner Triple Tap Ventures LLC. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lubbock will be located in the North Slide Square center at 5200 North Loop 289.

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Lubbock will be a state-of-the art theater with eight screens.  Each auditorium will be equipped with state-of-the-art Digital and RealD 3D projection (plus 35mm projection in select auditoriums).  In addition to the superior AV equipment, the layout of each auditorium eliminates the traditional front rows, ensuring every seat in the house allows for an optimal viewing experience.  Construction and site work commenced over sixty days ago and this location will be opened well in advance of the summer movie season next year.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Lubbock will also feature an adjacent stand-alone bar named Glass Half Full that will focus on quality, original and classic cocktails and a large selection of world-class draft and bottled beers.  This bar and lounge space will offer patrons an inviting place to socialize whether they are waiting for a movie or just catching a drink with friends.

The new theater is being designed by Dallas, TX based 5G Studio Collaborative.  The design will combine traditional Alamo Drafthouse elements with a modest West Texas vernacular of brick and stucco showcasing the Glass Half Full bar and patio.

"We have strong ties to Lubbock.  We have partnered with the Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management (RHIM) program at Texas Tech University to recruit new talent, and several of our top executives are Tech graduates," said Alamo Drafthouse Founder & CEO Tim League.  "We've talked about bringing the Alamo to Lubbock for years now, and I am very pleased to be partnering with Triple Tap Ventures to make it a reality.

"With over 30,000 college students in three universities, a steady economy, a trade area of nearly 500,000 people, the Lubbock community was a clear choice to become home to an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. This great community with its vibrant art and academic culture is a perfect setting to bring Alamo's unique entertainment experience. The location at North Slide and Loop 289 will put the theatre at a location convenient to the Texas Tech Campus and patrons from the entire region," said Triple Tap Ventures LLC President, Neil Billingsley-Michaelsen. Triple Tap Ventures LLC is the owner and operator of the Houston metropolitan area Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations as well as holding the exclusive development rights for Houston, El Paso and several West Texas cities, including Lubbock.

North Slide Square is a project of Charles Hodges, Co-Developer of the highly successful Canyon West project.  "It is an honor to bring another exciting shopping and entertainment venue to the high growth area that is North Lubbock," said Mr. Hodges.  "The Alamo Drafthouse brings the edge and excitement we dreamed of and another addition to the quality of life in Lubbock and the south plains."

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema combines food, drinks, films and events all under one roof. It is a unique combination of movie theater and restaurant, showing first-run features, family movies, independent films and specially programmed events with an extensive menu of drinks and made-from-scratch food available in every auditorium and at all shows. Servers attend to all customer needs quietly throughout the movie. The company has been heralded for their high exhibition standards, unique programming and events earning accolades like "Best Theater Ever" (Time Magazine) and "the coolest theater in the world" (Wired).

Additionally, the Alamo Drafthouse protects the theater experience with a zero tolerance policy towards talking, texting, or any other disruptive behavior. Last summer, the Alamo Drafthouse made global news for its viral "Don't Talk" PSA that used a humorously misguided voicemail from an actual patron who was ejected for texting during the film.  The full story on the long tradition of Alamo's no talking/texting policy can be found here.

I can tell you that I'm excited! How about you?
