UltimateClassicRock.com has put together a list of the Top 10 Cowbell Songs and the Rolling Stones song "Honky Tonk Women" came out on top.

Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" only came in third. That's interesting since it's the song that Will Ferrell and "Saturday Night Live" used to launch the "more cowbell" phenomenon back in 2000.

The "SNL" website has an excerpt from the sketch, here. There's no official version of the entire skit, but you can find a low-quality rip of the whole thing on eBaumsWorld.com.

Here's the Top 5:

1.)  "Honky Tonk Women",  The Rolling Stones  (1969)

3.)  "Don't Fear the Reaper",  Blue Oyster Cult  (1976)

5.)  "Low Rider",  War  (1975)

Interesting Fact: Nine of these 10 cowbell tracks were released in the eight years between 1969 and 1976. Yes, the list was done by a classic rock site, but that's still a small time period to pack in a lot of cowbell.

You can find brief write-ups on each song at UltimateClassicRock.com.

So what songs are missing from this list? Well, there's Mountain's "Mississippi Queen". It came out in 1970, so it's still even in the eight-year window. There's also "Time Has Come Today" by The Chamber Brothers.
