The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch and flood warning Thursday afternoon (May 28).

[UPDATE 1:43 p.m.] The flood alert has been upgraded to a flash flood warning, in effect until 4:45 p.m. CDT.

The flood warning was issued Thursday afternoon for Lubbock County and Southern Hale County. Currently, it's set to expire at 4:15 p.m. According to the advisory, multiple slow-moving thunderstorms are expected to expand across Lubbock County. Flooding could develop as a result.

In addition, a Tornado Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. CDT for all of the South Plains, extending eastward to Texoma and to the south in the Permian Basin and Big Country regions.  The counties included in the Tornado Watch are:

Andrews, Bailey, Baylor, Borden, Brewster, Callahan, Cochran, Coke, Cottle, Crane, Crockett, Crosby, Culberson, Dawson, Dickens, Ector, Fisher, Floyd, Foard, Gaines, Garza, Glasscock, Hale, Hardeman, Haskell, Hockley, Howard, Irion, Jeff, Davis, Jones, Kent, King, Knox, Lamb, Loving, Lubbock, Lynn, Martin, Midland, Motley, Nolan, Pecos, Presidio, Reagan, Reeves, Runnels, Schleicher, Scurry, Shackelford, Sterling, Stonewall, Sutton, Taylor, Terrell, Terry, Throckmorton, Tom, Green, Upton, Val, Verde, Ward, Wilbarger and Winkler.
