Van Halen have been keeping things fresh throughout their support of ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ by working both older and new songs into their sets. It appears as though the next two tracks that might finally appear in front of an audience will be ‘As Is’ and ‘Light Up the Sky.’

When that will happen remains to be seen, but in the interim rare video footage of a soundcheck in which all Van Halen members named Van Halen work out both songs in front of an audience of onlookers without the aid of David Lee Roth. The soundboard audio has been synched up to go with the video to give fans a rare peek behind the curtain.

In the footage, you can audibly hear Eddie and Wolfie discussing the fact that they’ve been working on the material and will have it ready to go if Roth feels like singing it.

While the epic ‘As Is’ primarily shows the band’s instrumental prowess, ‘Light Up the Sky’ actually works in Eddie and Wolfie’s backing vocals into the performance.

According to the Van Halen News Desk, ‘As Is’ has yet to be heard in concert, while ‘Light Up the Sky’ has not been played live since 1980.
