We think about dust storms and wind in West Texas, but earthquakes?  Yep, Monahans, which is about 47 miles southwest from Odessa, Texas, recorded a mild earthquake which registered 3.2 on the Richter scale.

The U.S. Geological Society reported that the quake happened Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 3:43pm.

Any earthquake which registers a 2.0 or less is a microearthquake. What exactly causes an earthquake?  According to the U.S.G.S., 'Earthquakes are the result of forces deep within the Earth's interior that continuously affect the surface of the Earth. The energy from these forces is stored in a variety of ways within the rocks  When this energy is released suddenly, ...an earthquake results'.

The most powerful earthquake recorded occurred in 1960 in Chile and registered 9.5 on the Richter scale.

We called the Ward Country Sheriff's Office in Monahans and asked if any damage occurred.  Dispatch didn't know and transferred us to their public relations person's voicemail, but we haven't received a call back.
