On Monday, October 12, City of Lubbock attorneys filed a response on behalf of Charlie Brewer, a Lubbock police officer who is being sued by a man he arrested back in 2013.

In September of this year, Tanner Griggs filed a lawsuit accusing Brewer of using excessive force during Griggs' arrest for DWI two years ago. Griggs claims Brewer threw him to the ground and punched him in the head for no reason.

Attorneys for the City of Lubbock wrote: "[Brewer] was acting in the course and scope of his employment with the Lubbock Police Department as a law enforcement officer."

They added: "[Griggs] kicked [Brewer] as he was being put in the back of the patrol car and...in response, [Brewer] struck [Griggs] once in the face."

The city-issued response ended by saying Brewer was acting in good faith and used reasonable force given the situation.

At this time no trial date has been set for the lawsuit.
